| The Troop has volunteered to replicate one of its many signal tower efforts for the Alpine Cub World. DAY 1: June 3, 2006, 3 Adults and 6 scouts arrive at Alpine Scout Camp to prepare the lumber necessary to build the signal tower. The scouts start the day designing and planning the size and lumber needs for the tower. Based on some special requirements and the fact that the tower will be permanent, the design is adjusted to 26 foot legs, 4 sets of horizontal braces, 2 sets of diagonal braces, a floor, and handrails. Past Signal Towers that the Troop has built have weighed in at close to 4,500 pounds. This endeavor may surpass 5,000 pounds based on some extra safety requirement. Previously the Troop had identified trees to be used. The ranger was able to cut them during the week. The scouts spent the rest of the day measuring, trimming, and marking the trees for cutting by the ranger. At the end of the day, with the ranger's help they hauled the base's horizontal braces to the site where the Tower will be erected on 6/10/06 - 6/11/06 |
