About the Event
2011The Eleventh Year and the Twelfth  Event
This year's Event, The Queens Borough Scout Orienteering Event, is scheduled for Saturday October 15, from 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM.

The event is composed of round robin training sessions on the varied skills needed for orienteering. Scouts and leaders have the option of
participating in all, part or none of the training. They may want to select only the sessions they need. Once they are done with their training
they will have the opportunity to run a real orienteering course.

Should training not be required the participants are free to run any of the courses.

The courses available will be: Score-O,  Orange (O), Yellow (Y), and White (W).

The feedback from the 2001 training day and Camporee was so positive; it was decided to make the training day an annual event. May 2002
marked the second annual event. We added a Yellow (Y) difficulty level course. Many new scouts were introduced to the sport and many
participants returned.

2001 - How It Started
The event was conceived as a training day for an orienteering themed Camporee weekend. Two weeks prior to the Camporee the
Pathfinder district Scouts convened in Forest Park to train on basic orienteering skills in preparation for the Camporee at Alpine Scout Camp
in New Jersey. In the first year it was all about basic skills since most of the scouts had never experienced real orienteering. Followed by a
White (W) level orienteering course just like the O clubs do it.
