Dear Parents,
It is that time of the year to be thinking about Summer Camp again. As most of you know the Troop participates in a two week program offered
by Ten Mile River Scout Camps.
This year we will be staying at camp Aquehonga for two weeks: Week #1 Sunday, July 10th through Saturday, July 16th; and Week #2 Sunday
July 17th through Saturday July 23rd.
Camp Aquehonga, offers a world class scouting experience. To a Scout, summer camp is the great adventure that Scouting holds. As Scout
leaders, we have the responsibility to help a boy to find that adventure. We encourage you to explore the site: www.tenmileriver.org and learn
about the uniqueness of the camp, and all that is in store for your son this summer! The Troop will also have a Summer Camp presentation
during the Parent’s Night program on Wednesday March 30th. Should you need more information before then, please contact J.P. or Ralph.
This Year’s Fees for Ten Mile River is $ 370.00 per week. There is an additional Troop fee of $10.00 per week to offset transportation (fuel
and tolls), and supplies (propane, laundry, and other miscellaneous operating costs).
Total per week = $380.00, Two weeks = $760.00
As an incentive for units and families to pay for camp in advance, GNYC offers an Early Bird discount for some programs.
Camper reservations paid in full before May 25th (*Due to GNYC by May 31st) will receive a $40.00 per week discount.
The final cost of Summer Camp, if you take advantage of the early bird discount, is $ 340.00 per week.
With Early Bird Discount: Total per week = $340.00, Two weeks = $680.00. A $80.00 Savings
If you pay after May 26, 2010: the cost will be $ 380.00 per week. ($760.00 Total)
Camperships are available to help reduce the total cost of camp, they are offered to Greater New York Councils Scouts. Several different types
of camperships exist. Each borough sponsors and administers its own campership program, and there are several sponsored by various
groups that promote Scouting in NYC.
Should you need further assistance please discuss the matter with the Scoutmaster or a Committee member
The Troop has found that applying for these camperships in a timely manner is the most appropriate way to go. Therefore, we are supplying
you with the 2011 Queens Council Campership Application at this time. If you wish to apply for a Campership please fill out the form and
return it by the April 13th Troop meeting so that we can submit the forms to the Council by their due date. If we submit the forms on a Troop
basis, it is easier for us to keep track and to make sure they all get processed properly.
Please include the $ 25.00 per week deposit with the filled out application on April 13th , 2011. (Total deposit due $ 50.00).
Yours in Scouting,
The Troop 17 Staff
